#24 of 100 Notting Hill

I should be ashamed of myself for not watching this movie before.

There are some movies which are made to change the way you think and challenge your perceptions of what normal is then there are those just to tell you that not all is lot even if it seems like that.

It was rather an odd monsoon evening in Mumbai when I watched this movie curled up in my blanket all alone. This movie set in Notting Hill, London is about a very good looking British book seller who accidentally meets a high profile Hollywood actress.

This movie is more than a romantic comedy because in there somewhere is a very important lesson of accepting what life gives you and having the courage to smile gracefully through it.

While  psychological thrillers and movies that tell you how screwed up humans are as a species are important, I think movies like Notting Hill are crucial to remind you that sometimes all we want is closer to us than we think.

Watch this movie when you want to smile.

My roommate, my English teacher, my Mom all recommend this movie.

Needless to say I was hoping I will bump into Deepika Padukone when I went down after watching this movie.

Favorite Quote : Don’t forget I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.
( Du-uh)

Ps. I want to be as pretty as Julia Roberts someday.
PPS. Hugh Grant looks too good to be true.

#23 of 100 Love Per Square Foot

I am so glad I have had a chance to live in Mumbai first and then experience this movie.

I was randomly browsing through Netflix one night (An account I have ‘borrowed’ from a friend) when I saw the trailer and it just made me smile instantly.

I watched the movie after two days

The story revolves around a boy and girl desperate to find a house in Mumbai. In their desperation, they pretend to be a couple and apply for house and a home loan and then as luck would have it, they fall in love.

It’s a cute and very relateble slife of life story.
Why are love stories criticised so much today? I mean of course I appreciate war movies that make me feel like I am in 1940 but when I need to believe that not everything in life is awful I would turn to a movie like this.

I especially liked this movie because now I could relate to the problem of space in the city they were talking about, identify the stations they commuted to and mostly felt that tiny ray of hope that they did when they found someone they chose to spend time with, in a city where people don’t even have time for themselves.

It is a modern love story that anyone can watch on a gloomy evening or a rainy afternoon.

It is selfish, uncertain and hopeless love, you know the kind we have gotten used to now.

I must mention that Ratna Pathak Shah and Supriya Pathak just owned any and every scene that they were a part of.

If I directed the movie – I wish I had. I would have probably not dragged the climax so much (Tiny miny drag)

#22 of 100 Sonu ke titu ki sweety

I have seen worse films

I was home and I watched this movie like movies are meant to be watched on the LED screen in my room with my family on a Sunday

Maybe it was Mom made food or just the fact that I was at home but I didn’t think this movie was that bad.

The movie is about Sonu and Titu their friendship. Titu decides to get married to Sweety and Sonu doesn’t think he should.

The premise is interesting but honestly I didn’t think the cause of conflict was that clear. Every good Antagonist needs a backstory (or so I have been told)

But credit to the movie as it made me think , What would I do if I had to choose between my best friend or my boyfriend (If ever I manage to find one) ?

I hope I never have to, I suck at these kind of things.

Also‌, there are a lot of party songs in the movie, but why?

Watch the movie if you just broke up and yoru friends have been there for you no matter what. Watch it if like me you were just craving for a Light Bollywood movie.

If I was Directing the movie- I would spend more time on the characterisation. Girls aren’t evil monsters with the sole aim of destroying boy friendships. Just saying.

Ps. My boss said he loved the friendship between Sonu and Titu because in no way did look like they were more than friends. It was pure friendship. That’s weird everyone thinks I am more than just friends with my best friend.

#19 of 100 Sex and the city

Oh my god why I had I not watched this movie before in my life?

It was the most horrible weekend of my life. I was away from my parents, I was not speaking to my best friend and I did not have the money to drown my sorrows in clubbing.

That’s when I watched this movie. A very close friend of mine had told me time and again that I would love the series.  After watching the movie I knew she was right. Everything about that is everything my fantasies are made of.

The movie is set 4 years after the series ends. It is about 4 girls who are best friends and taking on life in a city.

There was a little too much in the movie I think, but that is just me. And of course there was New York, a treat for sore eyes.

This movie became my source of light in an otherwise very gloomy world. I rememebred how amazing it is to have girl friends who are there with you no matter what.

I am truly blessed to have such friends in my life. After watching this movie I have held all of them so dearly.

Anyone who is upset  or worried because of a stupid boy who doesn’t value what he has. Needs to watch this movie and shift focus. I did.

Also now I have become totally addicted to Sex and the City the series and that is also the reason I have become so irregular in posting and writing.

Is it strange that close to twenty years after the series was filmed I still identify with these women , their problems , insecurities and dreams?

#18 of 100 Forever my girl

I had been waiting to watch this film since the past 4 months. I was disappointed.

The movie is about  a music superstar who returns to his home town as he realizes what he had given up for his success. He tries to get back his family , his daughter and his first love.

It is about unconditional  love, forgivable and coming home.

The  movie had everything I love, US- Country setting , an incomplete love story , a very hot male lead trying to win back the love of his life.  I watched this movie after having a terrible fight with my best friend. I thought I would never speak with him again.

When life seemed out of control I thought watching a movie that never released in my country  would help me get control back. The movie did what it was supposed to do which is  made me forget my miserable life and transport me to a world where I believed that everything was possible , even finding love after losing it.

The plot line is obvious, watch it when you desperately need to believe in happy endings like I needed it that Friday evening.

What is about romantic films that make you believe that if he came back for her leaving all his life behind then your life has hope too?

I Know that if I had watched this movie 3 years ago I would have fallen in love with it. Now it is just for  rainy days when I want to shut out horrible things happening around me.

If I  had directed the movie  – I would have made Josie Preston a stronger character and everything way more difficult for Liam.  You cannot just leave and expect everyone else’s life to pause. I would have introduced another man in Josie’s life.

Ps. The movie is based on a novel and I am going to read it as soon as I finish the one I am currently reading.

#2 of 100 Life as we know it

You know how those breaks that were meant to be for half n hour but somehow last for hours? Yeah it was one of those breaks – I watched this Rom-Com ‘ Life as we know it.’

The film is about two people who cannot stand each other but end up raising a kid together.

I liked it a lot. I think  it is a really good movie for days when you want to believe that there is hope in the world.

There were parts where situations in the movie felt rushed even forced at times, I didn’t feel as connected then. But that’s okay because for most of the movie I was just gushing about how cute the whole setting is.

What is really different about this film is that it is honest. They are honest about how they don’t like this responsibility that has been imposed on them. Raising a human is one of the toughest things in the world. They don’t sugar coat it.

I felt warm and hopeful after the movie ended.  I was reminded how unpredictable life can be and how it is so stupid to be waiting to start living life.

I think Romantic Comedies are grossly underrated I mean I understand they might not change the world but sometimes a good Romedy and chocolate ice cream are all you need to give you the courage to go back and fix whatever it is that needs fixing. I mean isn’t that what art is supposed to do any way?

It has been so long since I watched a good rom com that I don’t even feel guilty for not working the entire night when I had planned to stay up and work all night.

Also of course , Katherine Heigl is love. How is that woman so effortlessly beautiful?

Favourite quote – ‘Having somebody help you doesn’t mean that you failed.’

*Tiny spoiler*
If I was the director – I would include more scenes of Josh Duhamel being insecure about Katherine’s boyfriend.
