#28 of 100 Wreck it Ralph

Then there are those films that you know you have to watch with your sister.

I had been wanting to watch this film for some time now but I was waiting for a chance to go home and watch it with my favorite person to watch movies with.- My sister.

It is not about watching the movie, it is about pausing it every now and then to discuss something awesome that just happened or dissecting the whole movie after it’s end coming up with alternate endings , there are very few people I get to do those with.

The movie is about a video game character Ralph who wants to no longer be the bad guy in his game. He just wants people to see him as a hero too.

The writers at Pixar were playing there favorite game, What if *something* had feelings..
That’s when someone suggested video games

And wrecked Ralph came into existence.

How do they do it? How do the people at Pixar make lifeless things seem more alive than a lot of humans I know?

The movie , like every other pixar film is more than what it appears to, it is like getting the most important life lessons from five years olds.

It is a great plot with twists and turns that you were not expecting. Anyone who has ever played an arcade game should feel a wave of Nostalgia. I used to play Mario a lot.

Watch it if you’re a pixar nerd. Watch it if you have ever struggled to belong, if you feel lost about who you’re supposed to be. Watch it when you are tired of being seen the way the world sees you.

Watch it to be reminded that it’s our flaws that sometimes make us special

Favorite quote- “Why do I always fix everything”

(Because I saw this in he trailer and I knew my sister would laugh at this and she did.)

People at Pixar let me be there when you brainstorm for movie ideas

Ps.My sister slept halfway through the climax

#27 of 100 Sui Dhaaga

Imagine Varun Dhavan play a poor Boy.

I was home we were coming back from somehwere and Mom said she wanted to watch a movie.

Of course we ended up watching Sui Dhaga, the poster said Aditya Chopra was involved in the movie.

Sui Dhaga is about a lot of things honestly. A man leaves his job to find one where he is respected.

The movie is also about a man who tries to do something that goes against the wishes of his parents. It is about struggles of earning a living, the struggles of an arranged marriage in a joint family, the dilemma of having your own life and staying with your parents. But mostly the movie is about mass production and how it destroyed the livelihood of so many and should they simply adapt or resist

It is about self reliance and self respect. Something our movies should talk about more often.

There is a thin line between an Innocent story and one which is Naive. The latter is how I would describe this film.

Despite the hardships shown in the film, things seemed a little too easy for Mauji and his wife. Which is fine given it’s just movie, but then why pretend to make it a realistic story? Why not go all out and call it what it is?

This movie raises an important question, have we forgotten the importance of a handiwork because of the convenience of mass production?

A generation that’s obsessed with personalizing everything maybe owes more than that to it’s artists. We can’t let them sink as we dream to soar.

It is a sweet story with relatable conflicts.Watch it if you want to watch something like a docudrama. Watch it if you miss Delhi or life around it. Watch it if you’re starting out on your own, this movie will inspire you.

Anushka Shamra is brilliant. It is one of her best performances, her character was strong and realistic.
Special mention for the female actor who played the role of the fashion designer who was their manager. Beautiful acting!! It’s kind of sad but I have met so many women like her.

If I had directed it- I would not cast Varun Dhawan to play a poor boy. He looks good rich.

It is more than a love story.

Honestly I wasn’t interested in watching this movie, but it was the weekend again and how else would I justify my age if I didn’t go out blow up all my hard earned money on weekends?

The movie is a story of a young couple and their love or fyaar which means f plus pyaar ( somewhere a writer is very proud).

They were in love , He wasn’t ready for a commitment.

(We all can relate to that I guess.)

But this story is more than a love story, it’s about fears, second chances and then third chances, it is about self respect and how everything goes to hell because the heart wants what it wants.

It was entertaining and the plot line was ok. But the characterization that was just something else. I felt like I am in Amritsar watching these people who are so real!I guess it helped that both lead actors knew exactly what they were doing.

The movie did seem kind of a drag in the ene. I am so happy I didn’t buy popcorn would have totally regretted it when the popcorn was over and the movie kept dragging on.

Watch it if you are bored of romantic comedies. Watch it if you want to know what people in Punjab are like. Watch it when you want to be reminded of how crazy Punjabi boys are.

This movie released as ‘Husband Material’ internationally.Which is weird because the plot of the movie and the characters justify the title beautifully infact I cannot recall any other plot that justifies it’s title so much.

It is also so refreshing to see a Hindi movie’s title not as Old Hindi movie songs.

I am not an Anurag Kashyap Fan, but my roommate told me it’s a nice change to see him make a movie so different from what he usually does.

If I had directed it – The ending could have been a little different and also not so much of a drag.

Ps. I hate Fyaar. Sounds just stupid.

#25 of 100 Searching

Stop whatever you are doing and go and watch this movie right now!!

It was a saturday and there it was the unsaid pressure of ‘enjoying’ the weekend. I did have a very busy week and needed a break. I came across the trailer for this one and convinced a friend that we have to watch this movie even if it meant traveling to the other side of the city (for me)

This movie is based on a story we’re all very familiar with. A father is looking for his daughter who has been ‘taken’ from him. But  I promise that except for the premise everything else in the movie is brand new.

The treatment of the movie is what makes it refreshing. The whole movie is shown through screens.
Is this a comment on how we are living our lives only through screens now? How majority of everything we experience is dominated by a virtual reality surrounding us and slowly encompassing us as well. Maybe.
Or maybe  it is just the story from the point of view of the Google Robot that tracks everything we do. ( Hi Robot!)

While the treatment is clever it is the plot that made me wish I had written this story.
I forgot about my nachos  during the climax of the movie. That almost never happens.

Watch this movie if you want to watch good cinema, if you want a break from life, if you want to feel something.  If you are fond of Easter eggs in movies ( I love that)

Trivia- There was a movie Unfriended that also had a similar treatment. A character from the movie ‘Laura Barns’ was a trending topic in the beginning.

Dear Aneesh Chaganty , thank you for making this movie. Please let me be AD on your next one. You are a genius.

#24 of 100 Notting Hill

I should be ashamed of myself for not watching this movie before.

There are some movies which are made to change the way you think and challenge your perceptions of what normal is then there are those just to tell you that not all is lot even if it seems like that.

It was rather an odd monsoon evening in Mumbai when I watched this movie curled up in my blanket all alone. This movie set in Notting Hill, London is about a very good looking British book seller who accidentally meets a high profile Hollywood actress.

This movie is more than a romantic comedy because in there somewhere is a very important lesson of accepting what life gives you and having the courage to smile gracefully through it.

While  psychological thrillers and movies that tell you how screwed up humans are as a species are important, I think movies like Notting Hill are crucial to remind you that sometimes all we want is closer to us than we think.

Watch this movie when you want to smile.

My roommate, my English teacher, my Mom all recommend this movie.

Needless to say I was hoping I will bump into Deepika Padukone when I went down after watching this movie.

Favorite Quote : Don’t forget I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.
( Du-uh)

Ps. I want to be as pretty as Julia Roberts someday.
PPS. Hugh Grant looks too good to be true.

#20 of 100 The Sweetest Thing

This movie made me cringe so hard.

I wanted to watch chick flick , nothing too intense so I ended up watching the sweetest thing.
It is about three women who live together and then one of them falls for a boy and then she goes to another town to find that boy.

What could go wrong with this cute simple plot right? Except this movie was written by someone who  has no idea how women really live.  This was right out of a boy’s fantasy.

In this movie girls take off their clothes and just because their favorite song is on start dancing in their underwear, in the middle of nowhere might I add.

If you are a boy who has no idea or interest about how girls live please watch this movie to continue living in that bubble.

There are very few movies that I don’t enjoy , sadly this was one of them.

You know what Netflix needs? they need a good Synopsis Writer. So that You don’t watch movies and then say bad things about them later.

If i had directed it – I would not reduce girls to sexy giggling objects but actually show what they would do for a boy they really care about and how their best friends would warn them not to go crazy about a boy but then go along with them as they go crazy for a boy.

PS. I love Cameroon Diaz and loved this black top that she wears in a club and I am looking for the same one

#19 of 100 Sex and the city

Oh my god why I had I not watched this movie before in my life?

It was the most horrible weekend of my life. I was away from my parents, I was not speaking to my best friend and I did not have the money to drown my sorrows in clubbing.

That’s when I watched this movie. A very close friend of mine had told me time and again that I would love the series.  After watching the movie I knew she was right. Everything about that is everything my fantasies are made of.

The movie is set 4 years after the series ends. It is about 4 girls who are best friends and taking on life in a city.

There was a little too much in the movie I think, but that is just me. And of course there was New York, a treat for sore eyes.

This movie became my source of light in an otherwise very gloomy world. I rememebred how amazing it is to have girl friends who are there with you no matter what.

I am truly blessed to have such friends in my life. After watching this movie I have held all of them so dearly.

Anyone who is upset  or worried because of a stupid boy who doesn’t value what he has. Needs to watch this movie and shift focus. I did.

Also now I have become totally addicted to Sex and the City the series and that is also the reason I have become so irregular in posting and writing.

Is it strange that close to twenty years after the series was filmed I still identify with these women , their problems , insecurities and dreams?

#17 of 100 102 not out

Whoever told me that this was going to be a ‘light’ movie needs to buy a dictionary and learn what ‘light’ means.

The movie is about a 102 year old father , Amitabh Bacchan teeaching his boring 70 year old son Rishi Kapoor how to live life.

I saw this movie with my closest  friend , a late night show in a still unknown city. Maybe it was the fact that she was leaving next morning that nmade me so emotional but I cried through the second half of the movie

It is a very different movie. Different from the ones we are used to watching thank god. It is a kind of movie that makes you realise what is important in life. It is the kind of movie that makes you feel something.

It is a good movie. Watch it with a very strong heart though it makes you question your life decisions.

I called my mom after watching this movie. So it is that kind of a movie.

Amitabh Bachchan is superb just like everyone has told me. Rishi Kapoor is really good too. But a special mention for  Jimit Trivedi He was amazing.

Watch it when you want to feel something. When it has been too long since you cried in a movie hall (in front of your laptop whatever) When you don’t understand what matters anymore. Watch it , it will give you direction.

I know it did all those things for me.

A lot of people watched it with their parents I don’t know if I would have been comfortable with that.

I want to know what men who watched it with their fathers felt.

If I had directed it – so the starting point where the conflict appears could have been a little more strong. It was a little obvious to me where it would lead to so maybe I would make the conflict or at least the introduction of thee conflict a little more stronger.

PS. No it is not a copy of the Bucket list

PPS.Yes  It is based on a Gujarati play. ( Aren’t all good movies?)

#16 of 100 Incredibles 2

Of course it was one of the finest movies  I watched in a long time , it was Disney  Pixar.

It is month end and being a new adult I have realised what month end means. It means that every day after the 20th just seems longer and more expensive. But that didn’t stop me from watching the Incredibles . (Every Pixar film is worth it.)

The story starts just where the first one had ended with Underminer taking over and the Incredibles family fighting him.  I love it when sequels do that I mean isn’t that why they are sequels- to tell us exactly what happened  after the first one ended isn’t it?

In the movie, the Incredible family is convinced that to make Supers legal again they must use Elastic girl to tell their side of the story. Elastic girl encounters a new villain called Screenslaver and Mr Incredible encounters Dash’s  Math homework and other equally dangerous villains by being a stay- at- home dad.

Like all Pixar films , this one too has an underlying theme and deals with complex situations that face out world today in the cutest way possible.

How do they do it?  Make something so gripping and relevant. It’s pure genius.
People at Disney, if you are reading this please let me just part of your brainstorm sessions once.

Was it as good as the first one? I don’t think  it is fair to compare them because this one is really relevant to society today and that one was relevant then.  I think they were equally good.

I loved the movie. However I watched a late night show without having dinner so I was constantly thinking about food while watching it. I would not recommend anyone to watch this film hungry, especially if you are watching  it  in the movie hall because they play ‘ Bao’ the short film before it, which is amazing except it makes you so hungry!!

If I was even a tiny part of this movie – I would have considered myself to be very lucky.

It is a great film  and unlike some other sequels this one was worth the wait.

#15 of 100 Deadpool 2

I watched this movie  when everything was wrong in my life …again.

It is exactly the same as the first one except with more pop culture references and less nudity so yeah I liked it more than the first one.

My room mate and I watched it in a a very shady movie hall in Mumbai. Maybe it was my newfound Independence to go to shady halls for late night shows that made this above average movie great for me.

I did not like Dead pool and for that a lot of people have disowned me for saying that out loud but after this movie I can say that he is tolerable. mehhh

But I think anyone who liked dead pool 1 and wants to watch ti for the first time all over again should go ahead and watch this one because this does exactly that.

You know the best part thought? Post credit scenes!!

The script of the movie seems random but is sewn together perfectly .  I wish I have the courage (and money) to write something as Bizzare as this.

Is Dead pool what pop culture and  Surrealism coming together  look like?
