The Netflix original is a sequel to one of the cutest rom-coms I had seen in a really long time.
I always knew that it was impossible to live up to such high expectations from the first film so I tried to keep an open mind and I suggest you do too.
In this movie, Lara Jean first-time-girlfriend is trying to navigate between her too-good-to-be-true boyfriend and middle school crush who got one of her love letters and is back in her life.
We have all been there, we have wondered what it would might have been had it worked out with that person we had a crush on. This makes it easy to relate with Lara Jaean.
The movie relates with the insecurities we have all had. Not being good enough for the person we are with, wondering if we made the right choice and wondering what if.
It also highlights very problematic thinking that’s so ingrained in us that we don’t even seem to notice it anymore. The fact that a great boy is a prize.
I thought this movie was weirdly both easy and tough to watch.
It is easy to watch:
-If you absolutely love the first movie.
-If you’re really looking for an innocent romantic escape.
– If you are in love with Noah Centineo.
– If you need to believe in love again.
– When you’re watching it with your girlfriends.
-If you want to live your what if fantasy vicariously through the protagonist.
It is so tough to watch:
-When you’re done with high school dramas.
– When you’re critically examining the screenplay and character graphs.
– If you’re unsure about the existence of love or its worth.
– When you realise that the film has a very hard- working conflict.
-If you’re going through a breakup.
I know that a third part is being made and I am honestly excited about it. I am going to watch it and then crib about it. But then watch it again after a blahh day when I have noone to talk to.
We need these movies for those days.
